Preschool Teaching AssistantDISTNCMS10-9-2024

The Teaching Assistant position is an integral part of the staffing design of the Brighton Preschool/Parent Program at Brighton Central School District. To adapt to the various demands of multiple work settings and varied team members (i.e., occupational, physical and speech language therapists and classroom teachers), the teaching assistant must remain flexible. The work schedule is Monday – Thursday; 26 hours a week.

The major responsibilities of the teaching assistant are focused on direct interaction with students. The exact nature of this interaction is determined by each student’s developmental level and needs. Some students have Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) that are supported by the classroom teacher and the teaching assistant. Maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of this job is essential.

Job Goal:

  • The teaching assistant provides direct support of the instructional process for their assigned student(s), under the general supervision, direction, and guidance of the classroom teacher.

As a teaching assistant, you'll be a key part of creating an exceptional learning environment for three- and four-year-olds. Here's what you can expect:

  • Creative Collaborations: Work alongside your lead teacher to plan exciting activities and lessons tailored to each child's unique interests.
  • Safety First: Help maintain a sparkling clean and cozy classroom where little ones can explore and grow.
  • Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Chat daily with your lead teacher to share ideas and ensure each child feels loved and supported.
  • Hands-On Fun: Lead daily crafting adventures, helping young minds develop fine motor skills and creativity.
  • Lifelong Learning: Continuously seek out new ways to enhance your teaching skills and stay up to date on the latest educational practices.
  • Home Visits: Build strong connections with families by visiting their homes with the director before the school year starts.
  • Partnering with Parents: Participate in Open House and parent conferences to share each child's progress and discuss their development.
  • Stepping In: Be ready to take the reins when your lead teacher is away, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted learning experience.
  • Team Player: Pitch in wherever needed to create a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere.
